Perseverance is Key
Continuing to show up in life and to show up for you is perseverance.
When facing struggle, it is important to know that you have an opportunity to process your options, move beyond the struggle and continue to do the work to get closer to what you are here to do.
In the last post, I shared a bit about struggle and the importance of moving beyond it. In this post, I want to talk with you more about perseverance.
Perseverance is defined as persistence in doing something despite difficulty or a delay in achieving success.
There are times when obstacles get in our way or cause difficulty when we are trying to achieve a goal in life and business. (and yes, sometimes we get in our own way, too! lol!)
Let’s take building an acting career as an example. Many times when we see an actor on the big screen for the first time, there are those who will declare them an overnight success. The reality is in most situations, that actor built their career over years and years of honing their craft and trying and trying again. The actor persevered even through rejection. They honed their craft. They put in the practice and demonstrated their ability to be consistent over and over again until they achieved success and reached a goal.
And when we think about stage actors making it to opening night, I have to share that even on opening night, the work does not stop. Actors continue to think of new ways and learn new discoveries on their journey to playing a character and building their work as a profession.
Now, let’s take Tabitha Brown as an example of perseverance. She definitely is not an “overnight” success. Before she was well known, she had a journey to get to where she is today. She faced challenges and life situations that seemed like she would never be able to achieve her dream of being an actor. In her process, she regularly went live on her social media pages long before she was the “overnight” success some people think she is.
Her recipe was taking action over and over again and finding a process (and social media platform) that worked better for her in her sharing. She was consistent before becoming famous. She still took action even when rejected, when things looked as if they were not working out and even when she had to drive for Uber to make ends meet while building her career. She remembered her goal. She remembered her why and tried different avenues to reach her destination. Today she has achieved a new level of financial success and has her work as a professional actor is on her beautiful growing list of achievements.
The truth is you can persevere and move towards creating a thriving life and business.
It is important to:
Remember your goal
Remember the reason why you are reaching for your goal
Take stock of what is and is not working in your life and/or business
Decide to reduce what is not working and do more of what is
Take action to make this shift
This is how you begin to create the change you want in your life and business.
There are quite a few people (myself included) who face challenges and stop their momentum due to a memory or past experience.
What happens when we recall something that did not go the way we planned previously or maybe a we had a huge disappointment? We store that in our memory and remember that when facing other situations that may seem similar. Then we may choose to not take action or we move with extreme caution (deliberate delays) due to what we have experienced previously.
If we do not learn how to move beyond our challenges, we will remain stuck and unsatisfied with our situations, life, career and/or business.
It is time to change this, to get unstuck and create the deep and beautiful life and work we are here to create.
You can do things differently!
You can gain clarity, get focused and take action to create the life you have been dreaming about!
You can do this!
